Andrew Benintendi is back in the starting lineup for the first time since he injured his knee back in August.
Well, it's good to see Benintendi back, but the circumstances are less than amazing. The Red Sox had their chance these past few days to establish a significant lead on the rest of the East, but they didn't really do that. Instead, they're sitting just one game ahead of the Orioles coming off a day that saw them get completely shut down and now don't have the benefit of Rick Porcello on the mound.
The Sox really need one of their big wins against a very good pitcher tonight. And not just because the Orioles and Blue Jays are looming. With a loss tonight, even these Yankees would be just three games back of the Red Sox. First place is very much on the table. But the unfortunate reality is that the Sox could still end up as low as fourth if things go poorly this weekend.
Just have to keep/start winning.
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN, WEEI, and the MLB Network.
