Red Sox minor lines: Pitchers move up, Yoan Moncada goes down

New, comments

There's plenty of upward movement from pitchers throughout the organization, but the bigger news might be Yoan Moncada's ankle.

Pawtucket W 8-2

Runsey Castillo: 1-5, K
Marco Hernandez: 2-4, 3B, HHR
Brennan Boesch: 0-3, K
Christian Vazquez: 2-3, BB

Roenis Elias: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Joe Kelly: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Kyle Martin: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Another good start from Pawtucket's rotation. Where was this three months ago? Alas...

Christian Vazquez' 2-for-3 night being such an outlier is perhaps why he's staying in Triple-A while the Sox bring in the likes of Bryan Holaday. If the Sox weren't currently looking for runs, things might be different. But with Vazquez not even managing a .700 OPS in Triple-A...

Portland L 2-8 (8/5)

Yoan Moncada: 1-4, K, 3 E, CS
Mauricio Dubon: 1-5

Portland W 9-4 (8/6)

Mauricio Dubon: 1-5, 2B

One hit, three errors, and a lightly sprained ankle for Yoan Moncada. Not great! We'll see how long it takes Boston's top propsect to make his return.

Salem W 13-6 (8/5)

Joseph Monge: 4-5, 2B, BB
Rafael Devers: 1-5, BB, K
Nick Longhi: 1-2, BB

Yankory Pimentel: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Salem W 12-11 (In 13) (8/6)

Joseph Monge: 3-7, 3B, 2 K, E
Rafael Devers: 3-6, 2 2B, BB, K, E
Nick Longhi: 2-6, 2 2B, 2 K

Jake Cosart: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

The hits keep on piling up for the Salem Sox, but it's Jake Cosart who really stands out here, coming into a barn burner and completely shutting things down in his first game in High-A. He's been striking out just about everyone he's faced since shifting to the bullpen in much the way Joe Kelly wishes he were. His big heat might not be quite as big as Kelly's but it moves, and that's a big deal.

Greenville W 5-4 (8/5)

Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-5, 2 K
Michael Chavis: 0-3, 2 BB, K, SB
Kyri Washington: 1-5, 2B, K

Greenville Game 1 W 4-1 (In 7) (8/6)

Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-4, K
Josh Ockimey: 0-3, BB, K
Michael Chavis: 2-4

Greenville Game 2 W 1-0 (In 7) (8/6)

Michael Chavis: 0-3, K
Kyri Washington: 0-3, 3 K
Austin Rei: 0-3, 2 K

Austin Glorius: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Stephen Nogosek: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Some ugly performances at the plate, but Nogosek joins Cosart in having a pretty nice debut at his new level, and Austin Glorius keeps right on rolling with his fourth straight scoreless outing lasting nine innings.

Lowell W 13-9 (8/5)

Matt McLean: 1-4, 3B, BB
Ryan Scott: 3-5
Bobby Dalbec: 3-5, 2B, HR

Matthew Gorst: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Lowell W 7-1 (8/6)

C.J. Chatham: 3-5, 3B, E
Ryan Scott: 1-5
Bobby Dalbec: 0-4, 2 K
Yoan Aybar: 1-3, 3B

Michael Shawaryn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Not the best second game, and Mike Shawaryn's debut went pretty damn well, but for a guy who spent the end of his college career on the mound, Bobby Dalbec is off to a pretty hot start in Lowell. .316/.381/.579 through his first ten games isn't half bad, even if short-season results always have to be discounted some.

GCL Red Sox W 3-2

Santiago Espinal: 0-3
