Red Sox minor lines: Josh Ockimey bounces back

New, comments

After a really rough July, Josh Ockimey is turning things around in August.

Pawtucket L 2-3

Rusney Castillo: 3-5, 2B, CS
Marco Hernandez: 2-4, BB, K
Christian Vazquez: 0-4, 2 K
Deven Marrero: 1-4, K

Henry Owens: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 1 HR

First slip back into really bad walk territory for Owens in a few weeks. Nothing about his season looks particularly great taken as a whole, but at the very least, he's been showing a positive trend. Walks down, strikeouts up, runs down, innings up. Far from where he wants to be and where we want him to be, but progress is progress.

Portland: W 5-4

Mauricio Dubon: 1-3, 2B, BB, K

Moncada's supposed to be back in tonight, which is good, because Portland is suddenly awfully thin again. No offense to Dubon. In another season, the fact that he's made such a seamless transition from Salem to Portland would be grabbing no small amount of attention. But this year he happened to do it with two guys who made the jump to Double-A look like a major leaguer's rehab start in short-season ball. Nothing he can do about that but keep on pluggin' away.

Salem L 2-13

Rafael Devers: 1-5, K
Nick Longhi: 0-4, K

Greenville W 5-4

Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-4
Josh Ockimey: 1-3, HR, BB, K
Michael Chavis: 2-4, 3B
Kyri Washington: 0-2, BB, K
Austin Rei: 1-4, K

Josh Ockimey just went through an ugly July, hitting just .151/.291/.349 with more strikeouts than in any other month this season. So far he's flipping the script in August, which might be a pretty defining month for him. A good month would pretty much complete something of a breakout year, while a bad one might leave his early performance looking a bit like a fluke, and put some extra focus on Boston's reluctance to promote him to Salem.

Lowell W 7-6 (In 11)

Matt McLean: 0-3, BB, K, SB
C.J. Chatham: 1-5
Ryan Scott: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 K
Bobby Dalbec: 0-4, BB, K
Yoan Aybar: 0-5

Stephen Nogosek: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

That's the first run Nogosek has allowed since giving up one a piece in his first two outings over a month ago.

GCL Red Sox W 5-4

Santiago Espinal: 0-3, BB, K
