Andrew Benintendi may have already debuted, but today he makes his first start with the Red Sox, batting ninth and playing left.
It's not exactly a full-powered lineup from the Red Sox tonight. Dustin Pedroia is getting the night off, and they were already down Hanley Ramirez for at least tonight and, given how long it's taking to hear about his various tests, probably a while past that.
Not exactly great timing, either. After last night, the Red Sox really need a win. Not just to put that awful loss behind them, either. If they drop tonight's game, and the Tigers can beat the White Sox, the Red Sox will be on the outside of the playoff picture and looking in for the first time in a long while. That's one line nobody is hoping to cross.
First pitch is at 10:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
