Through all the injury scares minor and major, somehow the Red Sox feature a full lineup in their series opener against the Diamondbacks.
With a lefty on the mound in Corbin, we don't see quite the full re-organized lineup that John Farrell had put out there a few days back, but the gist of it still remains the same, with the Pedroia - Bogaerts - Betts shakeup intact up top.
So can the Sox actually win a series for the first time in weeks? The Diamondbacks' record would suggest this is prime opportunity, but the Red Sox have Clay Buchholz pitching tomorrow, and tonight David Price takes the mound against a lineup that has done exactly one thing well: hit lefties. Price is supposed to be able to win even against a team like that, but this year he hasn't done anything of the sort, and after getting crushed by the Dodgers (who, in stark contrast to the Diamondbacks, are a good team that can't hit lefties) it's hard to have much hope.
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
On a far more serious note, Diamondbacks catcher Welington Castillo was moved from the paternity list to the bereavement list today. Apparently this can occur even without a death, and while the situation isn't entirely clear, it's being described as his wife experiencing "complications" during the birth with the implication that all parties are alive. Still, if you're the sort that has prayers to spare, send them that way.
