Pawtucket W 3-1 (In 13)
Deven Marrero: 0-1
Pat Light: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Anthony Varvaro: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Roman Mendez: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Not the most highlight-worthy nights from Boston's Triple-A bullpen hopefuls. But certainly a not better than the Sox got from, say, Noe Ramirez in Baltimore.
Why is Noe Ramirez still the go-to guy over Varvaro? Over Kyle Martin? Over Pat Light, even? Varvaro even has an opt-out coming up. It's time to give the opportunity to someone else.
Portland L 9-15
Andrew Benintendi: 2-5
Alright, Benintendi gets back on the horse. Hopefully he stays there longer this time.
Salem Game 1 W 7-1 (In 7)
Yoan Moncada: 2-4, 2 2B, K
Mauricio Dubon: 0-3, BB, K
Nick Longhi: 0-3, K
Rafael Devers: 1-3
Joseph Monge: 1-3
Salem Game 2 W 9-2 (In 7)
Yoan Moncada: 2-3, 2 2B, BB, K
Mauricio Dubon: 1-3, K
Nick Longhi: 2-4, K
Rafael Devers: 1-4, 2B, K
Yankory Pimentel: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Hey, it's Yoan Moncada! He hadn't had a single two-hit game since May 14, but here he's got two in one day! If he manages to turn it on again in a big way, that might be the signal to get him to Portland. Sox do love to wait for their prospects to fight their way out of a slump.
Also worth noting that's a start for Yankory Pimentel. That it comes in a doubleheader might mean this is just a one-off spot start, though the fact that he actually went five instead of three or four kind of suggests there's more to it. Starters switching to relief happens with some regularity in the minors, but going the other way is less common by half. Will be interesting to see if it sticks.
Greenville W 5-2
Josh Ockimey: 0-5 K
Kyri Washington: 3-4, 3B, BB
Austin Rei: 1-4, 2B, 2 K
Kyri Washington has been having a hard time staying on the field these last couple weeks. This is just his third game since the 18th, but at least if the results are any indication, he's healthy now.
