Red Sox minor lines: Big names thrive as system struggles

New, comments

For the biggest names in the system, the weekend has been going just fine. For the rest? Not great.

Pawtucket (6/24) L 5-8

Brock Holt: 0-4
Ryan Hanigan: 1-2
Rusney Castillo: 1-4, 2B, BB, K

Roenis Elias: 5.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 3 HR

Pawtucket (6/25) W 7-3

Brock Holt: 2-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Ryan Hanigan: 0-4, K
Rusney Castillo: 2-4, 2B, SB

Roman Mendez: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HR

How does Roenis Elias go from being so good one week to so heinous the next? Hard to believe the starts before these last two were as impressive as they were.

Portland (6/24) L 3-11

Yoan Moncada: 2-5, HR, 2 K
Andrew Benintendi: 3-5, 2B, K

Williams Jerez: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Portland (6/25) L 4-8

Mauricio Dubon: 2-5, 2 K
Andrew Benintendi: 0-3, BB

Teddy Stankiewicz: 0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 HR
Luis Ysla: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Stankiewicz has kind of been in freefall these last five starts. Coming off an underwhelming 2015 performance, things aren't looking great for the second round pick from 2013. Hard to be too enthused about a 4.91 ERA in Portland.

Oh well. At least things continue to go swimmingly at the plate for Portland. Yoan Moncada is taking no prisoners on his arrival to Double-A.

Salem L 1-5

Joseph Monge: 1-4, 2B, K
Rafael Devers: 2-4, 2B, K
Nick Longhi: 2-4, K

Yankory Pimentel: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR
Travis Lakins: 3 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Salem Game 2 W 2-1 (In 7)

Joseph Monge: 1-2, 2B, BB
Rafael Devers: 1-3, K

Devers slowly climbing higher, keeping that June OPS over .800. And now we'll have a post-ASB split to work with when July rolls around.

Greenville (6/24) W 6-5

Luis Alejandro Basabe: 0-2, 2 BB
Michael Chavis: 0-3, BB, K
Josh Ockimey: 1-4, K
Kyri Washington: 2-4, 2 HR, 2 K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-4, HR, 2 K

Jake Cosart: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Greenville (6/25) L 3-5

Luis Alejandro Basabe: 0-3, BB, K
Josh Ockimey: 0-4, 4 K
Kyri Washington: 1-4, 2B, 3 K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-3, 2 K

Anderson Espinoza: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Marc Brakeman: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Austin Glorius: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Oh boy, but the strikeouts really are back in force, aren't they? Hard to keep arguing Ockimey should be up in Salem when he can't avoid a game like that. And even Kyri Washington (admittedly, the two-true-outcome king) can't avoid striking out five times to go with his homers. It's like a plague.

Lowell (6/24) W 2-1

Ryan Scott: 1-4, 2 K
Yoan Aybar: 0-4, K

Lowell (6/25) W 9-3

Yoan Aybar: 1-4

Ho hum, sign Jason Groome, etc.
