Red Sox minor lines: Yoan Moncada bests Lucas Giolito

In a battle of top prospects, Boston's young infielder most certainly came out on top.

Very little to go around today, but when Portland faces Giolito, it feels necessary to mention it.

Pawtucket L 4-6

Rusney Castillo: 1-5, 2B, K

Aaron Wilkerson: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Roman Mendez: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

An awfully short outing for Wilkerson, who still needed nearly 80 pitches to get through it. Seems like the pitch count was the only reason for the early exit. Not great, but he's still keeping runs off the board, as he has done all year.

Portland L 6-9

Yoan Moncada: 3-5, 2B
Andrew Benintendi: 0-4, BB

Luis Ysla: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Moncada is the clear winner in his battles against Giolito, with his only out against the top prospect coming on a line drive snagged at second base. Benintendi also had some decent contact, and drew a walk, but no hits to his name. Awfully inconsiderate of Moncada, frankly, to make the adjustment to Double-A seem so easy after his teammate struggled so. But Red Sox fans are all-too-happy to have him starting off on a tear.

Lowell W 3-2 (In 11)

Yoan Aybar: 0-5
