Red Sox minor lines: Hope from (and for) Roenis Elias

Is there finally reason to hope for help from Pawtucket?

Pawtucket W 3-2

Sam Travis: 0-4, K
Deven Marrero: 1-3, K

Roenis Elias: 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 13 K, 2 HR
Anthony Varvaro: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Well then, Roenis, that's much more what the Red Sox were expecting from you in Triple-A. Frankly, the swingman had been so miserable in his first five outings this year--particularly for a guy with some decent MLB success--that it was hard to believe there wasn't some significant underlying cause for his struggles. Perhaps they figured something out with Elias as they did with Price in Boston? We can only hope so--the Red Sox could sorely use some of that rotation depth they were promised with Rodriguez suffering a setback.

Portland L 2-8

Andrew Benintendi: 0-4, 3 K

Justin Haley: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
Williams Jerez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Luis Ysla: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Have we actually found the proper place for Andrew Benintendi at long last? This certainly would suggest so, as it's the first time he's suffered a hat trick since being drafted.

And let's all just quietly look away from that Haley line. His season numbers still look pretty strong. Sometimes you just go out there and don't have a damn thing.

Salem Game 1 L 5-6 (In 10)

Yoan Moncada: 1-3, 2B, BB, K, SB, CS
Rafael Devers: 2-4, 2B, BB, K
Nick Longhi: 1-4, BB

Salem Game 2 L 3-4 (In 7)

Yoan Moncada: 1-3, K
Rafael Devers: 1-4, K
Nick Longhi: 2-2, BB

Yankory Pimentel: 3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 0 K

With Benintendi finally gone to Portland, Nick Longhi can perhaps step out of the shadows some. The Springfield native first baseman is actually a full year younger than Benintendi, and while he was also taken 29 rounds later (if two years earlier), he's actually one of those late-round signability picks that are so rare in this day and age of bonus pools and slot values. It doesn't hurt that, as Benintendi has headed north, Longhi has started killing it. He was already doing fine to start the year, but his May line of .354/.458/.542 is on a whole different level. Just the chance of making it to Double-A before he turns 21 should have Longhi turning some heads before the year is done.

Greenville L 1-10

Josh Ockimey: 1-3, 2 K
Kyri Washington: 0-3, K

Josh Ockimey is slumping so badly this past week that his OPS threatens to drop below 1.000. Shock! Horror! Panic in the streets!
