With last night's rain finally clearing up for good in the late afternoon, the Red Sox and Royals should be able to get their series underway Tuesday night, with the Rick Porcello - Yordano Ventura matchup still in place for the opener.
Obviously nothing much has changed for this matchup in the span of 24 hours. Rick Porcello is still Boston's most consistent pitcher, and Ventura still holding a 6.81 BB/9 on the year. It's possible the extra time off will have cooled Boston's lineup some, but we can certainly hope that's not the case after 73 runs in their last seven games.
What is nice for the Red Sox is that there's less pressure on Porcello to deliver now with the pen having had an unscheduled day off after some taxing games. But the same is true for the Royals, who had to deal with what was essentially a 13-inning bullpen game on Sunday.
First pitch is at 8:15 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
