Red Sox minor lines: Eduardo Rodriguez' rocky return

Eduardo Rodriguez is back in action, though it didn't go all that well.

Pawtucket L 0-3

Deven Marrero: 1-5, 2K
Marco Hernandez: 1-3, BB
Blake Swihart: 0-4, K
Sam Travis: 0-3, BB, K
Rusney Castillo: 0-3

Eduardo Rodriguez: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, E

So it's not the return you dream of, but Eduardo Rodriguez wasn't quite as bad as all that. He was victimized by a bunch of weak/infield hits early on, leaving him with a high pitch count by the second and a line that looks worse that Rodriguez really did.

That being said, probably not at his best, which is no surprise since it's his first start back. This is why we have rehab starts.

Oh, and Blake Swihart started in left field yesterday. I won't get started. I just can't anymore with this...

Salem W 7-4

Yoan Moncada: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 K, SB
Mauricio Dubon: 2-5, K
Andrew Benintendi: 2-4, 2B, BB, K
Nick Longhi: 1-4, BB
Rafael Devers: 0-5

Trey Ball: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

Alright, Salem! This is where things get good! This is the level where--

Oh.

Oh no...

He's back.

Enter Trey Ball, with...well, it's actually a pretty good outing by Ball's standards, which is kind of why his return is something worthy of dread. Look, he had his strong stretch in the middle months of last year. Then he gave up 25 runs in August and finished the year with a K:BB not far above 1.00. It's just hard to really believe that this is going to be the year he finally puts it all together.

Just...just let him play a position, Red Sox. You never know, right?
