Red Sox minor lines: Rusney Castillo finds a starting role

New, comments

Hey, look, Rusney Castillo actually gets to play baseball! Maybe he'll convince the Red Sox to leave Swihart alone? Please?

Pawtucket W 6-5

Deven Marrero: 2-5, 2B
Rusney Castillo: 2-4, 2B, K
Sam Travis: 0-4, K
Sean Coyle: 0-3, BB, K, E

Anthony Varvaro: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Rusney Castillo's return to playing every day starts off well. Though all this stupid news about Swihart taking fly balls in left field suggests the organization would rather screw up one of their best young assets than trust him as even their backup outfielder.

This is where I'd use a shrug emoji if I wasn't quite so ticked off.

Portland L 2-5 (In 17)

Wendell Rijo: 1-6, 2B, BB

Teddy Stankiewicz: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

Fun fact: Marc Normandin was at this game! I'm guessing he didn't stay for all 17 innings, though, because, y'know, who needs it?

I wouldn't want to speak for Marc, but I'm thinking he's waiting anxiously for a few good promotions from Salem. There's some players down there who seem like they'd be pretty great to watch. For instance...

Salem W 3-2

Yoan Moncada: 1-3, 2B, K, SB
Mauricio Dubon: 1-3, BB, 2 CS
Andrew Benintendi: 1-3, 2B, BB, SB
Nick Longhi: 1-4, K
Rafael Devers: 0-3, BB

Yankory Pimentel: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K

On a double steal with Benintendi, sure, but still. Yoan Moncada stole home.

Greenville W 8-3

Josh Ockimey: 2-4, HR, BB, K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-4, BB
Austin Rei: 0-2, 2 BB

Roniel Raudes: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Jake Cosart: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Anderson Espinoza gets all the attention in Greenville, and for good reason. He's a much more impressive prospect than Roniel Raudes. But Raudes is just a couple months older than Espinoza, making him one of the younger players at low-A. There's no end to the list of guys who put up garish numbers in the DSL or GCL (Raudes had a 63:3 K:BB in the DSL last year) only to do a whole lot of nothing when they made it into full-season ball. But if Raudes can get over this hurdle--and he's off to a good start--he might start earning some credit.
