The Red Sox can only hope to salvage at least one win from their series against the Orioles Wednesday night behind Joe Kelly.
Ah, but it's been a rough three days, and now it's time for the pitcher who showed the least the first time through the rotation to step up to the...well, the mound...again. And against a team that's just been steamrolling their way through the division, no less.
If'n you've got a deity of choice, now might be the time to start praying.
With Kelly on the mound, Ryan Hanigan will be taking over behind the plate. Which is perhaps well-timed given the heat Blake Swihart has taken of late. Otherwise, it's the same bunch. They haven't really struggled to put up offense outside of that one rough game against Marco Estrada. It's more been a question of timely hitting that's determined whether they've put up five runs or nine.
Unfortunately, too often that's been the difference. Five runs shouldn't so consistently be a losing mark, much as nine runs shouldn't be required. Save us, Eduardo Rodriguez?
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN, ESPN2, and WEEI.
