Red Sox vs. Orioles lineups: Xander Bogaerts leads off, Clay Buchholz starts

Xander Bogaerts is first to bat Sunday against the Orioles.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox get to stay at home today, meaning they'll run out most of their starting lineup against the Orioles as Clay Buchholz makes his first start of the spring.

Boston Red Sox (2-2)

  1. Xander Bogaerts, SS
  2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  3. David Ortiz, DH
  4. Hanley Ramirez, 1B
  5. Pablo Sandoval, 3B
  6. David Murphy, LF
  7. Chris Young, CF
  8. Rusney Castillo, RF
  9. Ryan Hanigan, C

Starting Pitcher -- Clay Buchholz

With Mookie Betts having played Saturday against New York, he'll sit out of today's action, giving Xander Bogaerts a chance to move up to the leadoff spot. It's obviously not Plan A for John Farrell, but it's probably something he wants to know if he can turn to should Mookie Betts be unable to play the role for whatever reason.

Actually, let's not talk about that situation. Let's never talk about that situation.

We'll get another look at Hanley Ramirez at first, and hopefully a better look at Pablo Sandoval at third than we've gotten previously. At the bottom of the lineup, the backup/depth outfielders make an appearance, amusingly ahead of actual starter Rusney Castillo, which might give you some insight on where Farrell intends to hit his left fielder this season. Or might just be the result of an intense rocks - paper - scissors tournament. I'd be ready to believe either.

First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. with NESN picking up the broadcast duties. For those looking for a game thread, feel free to make use of this piece when the time comes.
