The season is over, so you know what that means! Dustin Pedroia had surgery! Again! This time on his left knee, which he injured early in September against the Blue Jays.
At this point, you can pretty much schedule Pedroia for a trip under the knife come October or November before the season begins. He knows only the highest of gears, and inevitably, that takes its toll on him. It was the thumb after 2013, and the wrist after 2014. That he seems to have dodged any such operation last year almost makes me think it had to be worse than usual and the Sox were hiding it.
Alright, so not really. And yeah, it’s a bit concerning that the first time Pedroia didn’t need surgery led immediately into his best offensive season since 2011. WIll this procedure on his knee leave the 33-year-old struggling to reproduce his 2016 success? It’s certainly
But if Pedroia is perhaps prone to injury, that hasn’t cost him too many games. He’s mostly stuck things out until the offseason, and then been back in time for spring, which seems like it will be the case this year as well. Not good news, but also not anything too bad...at least until Pedroia shows otherwise.
