If this was a battle of draft position, the Red Sox are surely the losers, but after strong games from Joe Kelly and Wade Miley and big performances from most of the young bats in the lineup, Red Sox fans will certainly not complain. Yes, they're beating up on a bad team now, but over the last 30 days they've had Jackie Bradley Jr. hit .402/.456/.841, Swihart hit .426/.500/.574, Betts hit .343/.368/.566, and Bogaerts hit .355/.383/.455. If the price for such encouraging performances is a protected pick, the Sox will probably pay it.
Eduardo Rodriguez has mostly joined them in that success, though it'll take another week for his 30 day splits to look good. Since allowing eight against the Marlins, though, Rodriguez has turned in 19 innings of four (earned)-run ball. Kelly and Miley set the bar high in the first two games of the series. Hopefully he can keep up.
