Red Sox vs. Orioles lineups: Can Sox say goodbye with a sweep?

New, comments

It's time for the last home game of the year. Can the Sox see off Fenway Park on a positive note?

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox are out for a sweep Sunday afternoon, hoping to end their home schedule on a good note before they set off for the last road trip of the year.

Boston Red Sox

  1. Mookie Betts, RF
  2. Brock Holt, 2B
  3. Xander Bogaerts, SS
  4. David Ortiz, DH
  5. Travis Shaw, 3B
  6. Rusney Castillo, LF
  7. Allen Craig, 1B
  8. Blake Swihart, C
  9. Jackie Bradley Jr., CF
Starting Pitcher -- Henry Owens
(The Orioles are apparently quite late with their lineup, so this is what I've got.)

It's a rare start for Allen Craig at first, with Travis Shaw taking over duties at third and Brock Holt shifting to second. With Pablo Sandoval done for the year due to pneumonia, we might see a good deal of this arrangement over the last week, just to see if Craig can show anything, to keep Pedroia's workload low, and to get more of a look at Travis Shaw at the hot corner, since they're probably trying to find at bats for him in 2016.

Also looking to get playing time is Henry Owens. He's not going to be in the starting rotation for 2016--or at least it's extremely unlikely--but he's acquitted himself reasonably well in his first exposure to major league hitters, and with a strong finish, could take advantage of Brian Johnson's absence to establish himself as the first line of defense come next season.

First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
