With Pablo Sandoval out of the lineup with a respiratory infection, the Red Sox will be seeing more of Deven Marrero at third base today as they try to secure at least a series tie against Tampa Bay.
It's a fitting end to a rough season for Pablo Sandoval if this proves the last we see of him in 2015. That's far from a given with more than a week's worth of games left, but honestly, if you're the Red Sox, you have to be tempted to just call it a wrap with such a convenient endpoint as this presenting itself. And really, they may as well play Marrero at this point. A few more at bats for Sandoval isn't likely to do any good.
It's the one real dark spot on an otherwise positive end to the season for the Red Sox--y'know, ignoring that whole record thing. This team is certainly on the road back to contention, but it's got some very big road blocks from the last offseason standing in the way. Hopefully Rick Porcello doesn't give any more reason to think he's part of that problem tonight. This dragon does not need three heads.
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
