Red Sox vs. Rays lineups: Surging Porcello takes the mound

Rick Porcello's late-season surge might get him over an unfortunate milestone Saturday night.

Rick Porcello is on the mound trying to take his ERA down under 5.00 Saturday night as he takes the mound against the Rays.

BOSTON RED SOX TAMPA BAY RAYS
Mookie Betts - CF John Jaso - DH
Dustin Pedroia - 2B Grady Sizemore - LF
Xander Bogaerts - SS Evan Longoria - 3B
David Ortiz - DH Logan Forsythe - 2B
Travis Shaw - 1B Asdrubal Cabrera - SS
Pablo Sandoval - 3B James Loney - 1B
Rusney Castillo - LF Steven Souza - RF
Blake Swihart - C Kevin Kiermaier - CF
Jackie Bradley - RF J.P. Arencibia - C
Rick Porcello - RHP Matt Moore - LHP

5.00 is obviously not the landmark number you really want to be aiming for, but it's surprising enough that Porcello even has a shot the way he pitched for most of this season.

Getting there, though, is not trivial. It will take a short scoreless outing, or a longer, low-scoring one to get him down into the fours. Given that he's allowed just four earned runs in 22 innings since his return to action in late August, that shouldn't be impossible. But he's also offered up three homers in his last couple outings--quite the red flag when you consider how big a factor the long ball had been in his initial struggles.

First pitch is at 6:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
