Mike Napoli is gone, and thus, the Travis Shaw era has begun in Boston! Sort of! Kind of! Not really...
Travis Shaw is not realistically the answer at first base for the Red Sox in the long term. So long as the Red Sox aren't making any changes to Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval's defensive positions, though, there's nothing better to do with the remaining first base starts than hand them off to Shaw. It's hard to imagine any 50 games that would convince the team to head into 2016 with him, but he can certainly pump up his value to the Sox, or maybe even to some other team out there. Who knows?
For now, he'll start behind Wade Miley hoping, as we all will, that the lefty's upward climb can last for a few more games before the next stiff drop.
First pitch is at 7:08 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
