Red Sox minor lines: Matt Barnes, guinea pig

The Red Sox don't seem to know what to do with their old first-round pick.

Pawtucket L 4-7

Marco Hernandez: 0-4, BB, 2 K
Allen Craig: 1-3, BB
Garin Cecchini: 1-4, 2B, K
Deven Marrero: 0-4, K

Matt Barnes: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Pat Light: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Tommy Layne: 0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

The "Matt Barnes back to starting" experiment is going swimmingly, as you can see. Apparently it's being done to get him to re-incorporate his old changeup, but...one wonders if this is really the best way of going about it. Maybe just tell him to throw the damn thing?

Portland W 7-6

Carlos Asuaje: 1-4, 3B, BB, K
Sam Travis: 1-4, BB, 2 K

Williams Jerez: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Salem L 7-9

Teddy Stankiewicz: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Greenville L 11-12 (In 12)

Yoan Moncada: 3-7, 2B, K, 2 SB
Michael Chavis: 0-5, 2 BB, 4 K
Rafael Devers: 2-7, 2 2B, 2 K
Nick Longhi: 4-7, 2B
Javier Guerra: 1-6, HR

Nick Longhi really thrives in these long affairs. Twice in his last 10 games he's had seven at bats in a game, and he's picked up nine hits between those two outings. Now if only he could just be average in the other starts.

GCL Red Sox W 4-0

Yoan Aybar: 1-3

Logan Allen: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

A much flashier outing from Logan Allen, who had just one strikeout in his first couple of games.
