Red Sox minor lines: Positive trends in a bad month for Javier Guerra

Javier Guerra has struggled in August, but there are positive signs to be found.

Pawtucket W 7-6

Deven Marrero: 1-5, 2B, K
Allen Craig: 0-4, BB
Marco Hernandez: 2-3, 2B, BB

Noe Ramirez: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Pawtucket L 1-5

Deven Marrero: 1-4, K
Allen Craig: 1-4
Marco Hernandez: 2-4, K
Garin Cecchini: 0-3, 3 K

Edwin Escobar: 4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 2 HR
Pat Light: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

So much for Edwin Escobar enjoying his return to the rotation. An ugly wake-up call, that.

Portland W 4-0

Manuel Margot: 0-4, 2 K
Sam Travis: 0-3, 2 K
Carlos Asuaje: 1-4, K

Portland L 1-2

Manuel Margot: 1-3, BB
Sam Travis: 1-4, K
Carlos Asuaje: 0-3, 2 K

Salem W 8-1

Daniel McGrath: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Salem L 1-5

Ty Buttrey: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

As Trey Ball and Teddy Stankiewicz fall and falter respectively, the rest of the Salem rotation ticks upward. It feels like a zero-sum game, this team.

Greenville W 6-4

Yoan Moncada: 0-1, 3 BB, SB
Michael Chavis: 0-3, BB, 3 K
Rafael Devers: 1-4, 2B, K
Andrew Benintendi: 2-4, K
Nick Longhi: 0-3, K

Greenville W 10-4

Yoan Moncada: 1-6, 2 K
Rafael Devers: 1-5, 2B, BB
Andrew Benintendi: 2-6, HR, K
Javier Guerra: 1-4, 3B, 2 BB, K

An almost deceptive score to that second game, though Benintendi does reach double digits in homers on his short season. Also nice to see Javier Guerra trending positively in areas other than average and slugging. His strikeout rate is down into fairly respectable territory in the second half, even if his OPS has dropped with it. It has been a while since he last went deep, though, and even at his reduced K-rate, the power is a big, necessary part of his game.

Lowell L 0-1

Victor Acosta: 0-4, 3 K
Josh Ockimey: 0-4, 2 K, E
Tate Matheny: 0-3
Mitchell Gunsolus: 1-3, 2 K
Austin Rei: 0-3, 2 K, E

Lowell W 4-3 (In 10)

Josh Ockimey: 2-5, 2 K
Tate Matheny: 1-4, BB, K, SB
Mitchell Gunsolus: 1-4

GCL Red Sox W 1-0

Yoan Aybar: 1-3

Marc Brakeman: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Looks like the Red Sox are getting the debut out of the way for Brakeman, even if it's too late in the season to get him any significant run. He's one of those rare late-round signability guys the Sox managed to lock up by how they handled the first ten rounds of the draft, making for an unusually interesting 16th round pick.
