Pawtucket L 1-2 (In 13)
Deven Marrero: 3-5, K
Allen Craig: 1-6, K
Garin Cecchini: 1-5, K
Pat Light: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HR
Portland W 9-8
Manuel Margot: 0-3, 2 BB, SB, POCS
Sam Travis: 0-4, BB
Carlos Asuaje: 4-5, 2B, HR
Feels like Carlos Asuaje needed himself a big game just to remind the world that, indeed, he is here in Portland. He's faded into the background even with a resurgent August, but this should garner some small share of the spotlight.
Salem L 6-13
Ty Buttrey: 3 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 5 BB, 4 K
I guess I'll just reference what I said last time on Buttrey. In terms of bad outings, this is definitely one of if not his absolute worst. And if all the bad ones were like this, it wouldn't bode well for his status as a prospect. But they're not, and if this one is going to set back his season numbers, that's just the nature of someone who goes back and forth between highs and lows. In the end, the season often comes down to whether or not there's a bad start mixed into those last couple outings.
Greenville W 7-5 (In 10)
Yoan Moncada: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 SB
Michael Chavis: 1-5, HR, 2 K
Rafael Devers: 3-5, 2 2B, K, SB
Andrew Benintendi: 2-4, 2 HR, BB, K
Javier Guerra: 1-4, K
OK, well, two games in and Benintendi has Greenville all worked out. Maybe he and Moncada can carpool to Salem.
Probably not. But wow, that's one hell of a second game. Remember how maybe he wasn't going to see his power translate to wood bats? Over the course of a full season, he'd be on pace for about 35 homers. And 25 stolen bases. Moncada, for what it's worth, would be on pace for about 14 and 80(!).
Oh, and everyone else was pretty great too. This team is disgusting.
Lowell L 1-3
Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-4, K
Victor Acosta: 0-2, BB, K, SB
Josh Ockimey: 1-3, 2B, 2 K
Tate Matheny: 1-3, 2B
Kyri Washington: 0-3, K
Austin Rei: 0-3, 2 K
Mitchell Gunsolus: 0-2
Tucker Tubbs: 0-1, K
With Benintendi gone and Basabe slumping, Lowell is kind of ill-defined these days. Hopefully one of the guys just sort of plodding along pulls a Mookie next year.
GCL Red Sox W 5-4
Yoan Aybar: 1-3, BB, K
