The Red Sox are back in Fenway for the weekend, but Hanley Ramirez is still absent from the lineup as they send--sigh--Joe Kelly to the mound against Mike Montgomery and the Mariners:
|SEATTLE MARINERS||BOSTON RED SOX|
|Austin Jackson - CF||Mookie Betts - CF|
|Kyle Seager - 3B||Brock Holt - 2B|
|Nelson Cruz - DH||Xander Bogaerts - SS|
|Robinson Cano - 2B||David Ortiz - DH|
|Seth Smith - RF||Rusney Castillo - RF|
|Jesus Montero - 1B||Pablo Sandoval - 3B|
|Logan Morrison - LF||Travis Shaw - 1B|
|Brad Miller - SS||Ryan Hanigan - C|
|Jesus Sucre - C||Jackie Bradley - LF|
|Mike Montgomery - LHP||Joe Kelly - RHP|
While nobody will complain about another day with the Bradley - Betts - Castillo lineup, I'm pretty sure at this point just as many will be happy to see Joe Kelly on the mound for yet another start. It is what it is, the alternatives aren't much better, and someone has to pitch every game because the league isn't nice enough to just call this one early for two teams like Seattle and Boston who would probably prefer to just go home already.
So with all that in mind, enjoy the first time through the order, if Kelly isn't in a total meltdown mood, and then maybe consider turning your attention elsewhere for the next six-to-seven innings. We all have a finite amount of time on this Earth, and the second part of a Joe Kelly start ain't worth it.
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
