Red Sox minor lines: Yoan Moncada, as promised

New, 45 comments

It took Yoan Moncada a while to get going, but after a brief break during the All-Star Game, the Red Sox are seeing the Moncada they expected in Greenville.

Pawtucket L 1-4

Rusney Castillo: 0-3, BB, K
Daniel Nava: 1-3, K, SB
Travis Shaw: 1-4, 2 K
Allen Craig: 0-3, BB, 2 K
Garin Cecchini: 0-4

Henry Owens: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR

Pawtucket L 2-3

Daniel Nava: 0-4
Rusney Castillo: 0-2, BB
Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-3, BB
Allen Craig: 0-4, K
Garin Cecchini: 1-4, 3 K

Brian Johnson: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Edwin Escobar: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Noe Ramirez: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Some very middling performances on the mound for the top two starting pitchers in Pawtucket. But count them more positive than negative. For Owens, it's another game with his walks under control--five straight now--and for Johnson the only issue is a pitch count that got up a bit high. The way he's been rolling, it's hard to imagine a game like this being the start of anything seriously troubling.

Knock on wood.

Portland W 6-1

Carlos Asuaje: 1-4, 2 K
Sam Travis: 1-3, SB
Manuel Margot: 1-3, 3B, BB, K

Justin Haley: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Williams Jerez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

Portland W 5-4

Sam Travis: 1-4
Carlos Asuaje: 0-3, E
Manuel Margot: 1-4, SB

Justin Haley goes right back to a scoreless outing after his one terrible night. Five earned runs in three innings last time out are the only ones he's allowed in his last four games.

Greenville L 6-8

Yoan Moncada: 2-4, 2B
Rafael Devers: 0-5, K
Nick Longhi: 2-5, 2B
Javier Guerra: 2-5, K

Greenville W 8-7

Yoan Moncada: 1-3, BB, K, SB
Michael Chavis: 2-5, HR, K
Rafael Devers: 2-4, HR
Javier Guerra: 2-4, 2 K

Yoan Moncada has been heating up of late. He's hitting .341/.429/.463 in 11 games since the Single-A All-Star break, which is certainly more in line with what we might have expected of him right out of the gates. Chalk it up to rust coming out of his time in extended spring training. But unlike the bat, the wheels haven't been subject to rust. Eleven stolen bases, zero times caught in about a fourth of a season.

Lowell L 5-6 (In 14)

Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-5, 2 BB, 4 K, CS, A
Andrew Benintendi: 1-5, 2 BB, K, A
Victor Acosta: 2-7, HR, 2 K
Josh Ockimey: 0-6, BB, 3 K
Mitchell Gunsolus: 1-5, BB, K

Lowell L 4-7

Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-5, 2 K, A
Andrew Benintendi: 0-3, BB
Austin Rei: 0-3, K
Victor Acosta: 0-3, BB, K, CS
Mitchell Gunsolus: 0-2, 2 BB, K
Tucker Tubbs: 2-3, HR

No more big games for Benintendi right out of the gates, but he keeps getting on base through other means. As does Mitchell Gunsolus, who has a .365 OBP despite a .250 batting average.

GCL Red Sox W 2-0

Trent Kemp: 0-2, 2 BB
Yoan Aybar: 1-3
