Pawtucket L 4-5
Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-3, BB, K
Travis Shaw: 2-4, 2B
Allen Craig: 1-4, 2B, K
Garin Cecchini: 0-4, K
Henry Owens: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Interesting to see Matt Barnes getting such a long outing. It was in relief, but you don't imagine the PawSox would be using a guy like Barnes to just eat innings in a game gone slightly off the rails. Also nicely effective.
Also a strong start from Henry Owens, who is just stringing them together one after another at this point. He's still not quite got his BB/9 straightened away given how bad the year started, but over his last 10 games he's got a 58:20 K:BB in 62 innings, and over his last six games that figure is 41:10 in nearly 40 innings. It wasn't that long ago that a call-up would have seemed entirely premature for Owens, but now? Now he's looking ready.
Just stick him on a bus. And Jackie Bradley Jr. too. We'll make room. Don't worry.
Portland L 1-5
Manuel Margot: 1-4, 2 K
Carlos Asuaje: 0-4, 2 K
Sam Travis: 0-3, BB
Williams Jerez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Portland W 4-3
Manuel Margot: 1-5, 3B, K
Carlos Asuaje: 2-3, 2B, 3B, 2 BB, K
Marc would have you know that Margot should have been 2-for-5 last night. Either way, he's definitely slowing down some again after a hot start to his Portland career.
Salem L 5-6
Wendell Rijo: 1-4, 2B
Daniel McGrath: 3.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
Salem W 3-1
Ty Buttrey: 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Greenville L 3-11
Yoan Moncada: 1-3, 2 BB, K
Rafael Devers: 1-4, 2B, K, CS
Nick Longhi: 0-3, BB, K
Greenville L 3-4
Yoan Moncada: 0-3, BB, K
Michael Chavis: 1-4, E
Javier Guerra: 1-4, HR, 2 K
Nick Longhi: 0-1, K
If they played a major league length season in the minors, Javier Guerra would be on pace for a 25+ homer season. Pretty hard to fake that, even in Single-A.
Lowell L 4-5
Luis Alexander Basabe; 1-4, 2B
Mitchell Gunsolus: 0-5, K
Andrew Benintendi: 1-3, HR, BB, K
Tate Matheny: 1-3, 2B, K
Tucker Tubbs: 1-4
Josh Ockimey: 1-4, K
Lowell L 2-4
Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-4, 2 K
Tate Matheny: 1-3, 2B, K, CS
Andrew Benintendi: 1-4, 2 K
Victor Acosta: 2-4, K
Josh Ockimey: 0-4, 2 K
Tucker Tubbs: 1-2, BB, K, CS
Austin Rei: 1-3
Andrew Benintendi trails only three players with twice his at bats in the New York - Penn League for homers. One of those is Luis Alexander Basabe, whose six lead the league.
GCL Red Sox W 8-2
Kyri Washington: 2-3, HR, BB, K
Trent Kemp: 1-4, K
Logan Allen: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
GCL Red Sox L 2-6
Kyri Washington: 0-4, 2 K
Yoan Aybar: 0-4, 4 K
That was Kyri Washington's fourth straight two-hit game before his 0-for-4. It's been a feast-or-famine beginning to Washington's career, with that 8-for-14 run bringing his average up from .100 to .294 in just a few days' time.
