The Red Sox will be without David Ortiz Sunday afternoon as they try to end the first half of the season on a positive note by taking a series win over the Yankees.
It's an awfully late reveal from the Red Sox, who were waiting until the last minute to see if Ortiz could overcome some upper respiratory issues and get into the lineup. Apparently, though, that hasn't worked out, leaving Ortiz on the bench for the rubber match.
Even without Ortiz, the Red Sox are not resorting to Mike Napoli for a third time this series. Travis Shaw will get the start at first instead, with the Red Sox using Ortiz' absence to get Hanley Ramirez into the DH spot and both Alejandro De Aza and Shane Victorino into the outfield.
First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. with broadcasts on NESN, TBS, and WEEI.
