Pawtucket L 4-11
Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-4, 2 K
Deven Marrero: 0-4, 3 K, E
Travis Shaw: 0-4
Allen Craig: 1-4, K
Garin Cecchini: 1-3, HR
Robbie Ross Jr.: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Heath Hembree: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
That's just Garin Cecchini's second homer of the year. He's never really gone on anything even resembling a hot streak this season. A good game here or there, but when taking any real chunk of his season, it's just a question of if it's cold or ice cold. Of late, it's been the latter, with this being just the third time in his last nine games that he's tallied a hit. That star is fading fast.
Portland L 3-5
Carlos Asuaje: 0-4, BB, 3 K
Justin Masterson: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Portland L 0-1
Carlos Asuaje: 1-4, K
Well, we found the level Masterson can kinda-sorta survive at. But not entirely even all the way down in Portland, given all those hits. John Farrell says the Red Sox aren't sure what they're going to do with him once he gets back, but that he also may not need another rehab start. The obvious answer: skip the question entirely and just move on.
Salem L 6-10
Manuel Margot: 3-5, 3B
Sam Travis: 3-4, HR, K
Wendell Rijo: 0-3, BB, K
Teddy Stankiewicz: 5.2 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
Salem L 3-4
Manuel Margot: 1-4, SB
Sam Travis: 1-4, K, CS
Wendell Rijo: 1-4, 2 K
Kevin McAvoy: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
Stankiewicz follows up one of his best outings of the season with one of his worst. He's been a little Kelly like in that there's little middle ground to his starts. The one time he's allowed more than two and less than five earned runs in a start was when he gave up three back on May 5th, and that came in a game where he didn't escape the fourth, which kind of falls into disaster territory. On the bright side, the upside of the good starts is probably worth the worry over the rest, and preferable to just mediocrity throughout.
Greenville L 0-4
Rafael Devers: 0-3, BB, K
Nick Longhi: 1-3, 2 K
Yoan Moncada: 0-3
Javier Guerra: 0-3, K
Greenville L 6-10
Rafael Devers: 3-4, K
Javier Guerra: 2-4
Just when a 1-for-15 stretch put Devers' batting average at risk, he comes back with a 3-for-4 night. Kid can hit, simple as that.
