Red Sox vs. Orioles lineups: Sandoval returns, Swihart still absent

The Red Sox have their third baseman back, but not their starting catcher.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox will have Pablo Sandoval back in the lineup Tuesday night, but will still be without catcher Blake Swihart as they send Joe Kelly to the mound against the Orioles.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES BOSTON RED SOX
Manny Machado - 3B Mookie Betts - CF
Jimmy Paredes - DH Brock Holt - RF
Chris Parmelee - RF Dustin Pedroia - 2B
Matt Wieters - C David Ortiz - DH
Chris Davis - 1B Hanley Ramirez - LF
Travis Snider - LF Xander Bogaerts - SS
J.J. Hardy - SS Pablo Sandoval - 3B
Ryan Flaherty - 2B Mike Napoli - 1B
David Lough - CF Sandy Leon - C
Ubaldo Jimenez - RHP Joe Kelly - RHP

Also notably absent: Rusney Castillo, who hasn't started in a week now. He hasn't exactly earned starts with his performance, but riding the bench is certainly not doing the outfielder any good. The Red Sox are basically letting a guy who was already lacking for playing time with his various injuries rot away on the bench, which isn't doing anybody any good.

And then there's Mike Napoli. All the way down at eighth, by far the lowest we've seen from him. And, sadly, as with Rusney, you can't say he hasn't earned it. The first baseman is mired in a month just as bad as his April was. Maybe he belongs in the eight spot. Or maybe he just doesn't belong in the lineup at all.

First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
