Red Sox minor lines: Lowell Spinners debut

Local short season ball is underway.

Pawtucket W 7-5

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 1-4, BB, K
Allen Craig: 1-3, 2 BB
Deven Marrero: 0-4
Garin Cecchini: 1-4, E
Sean Coyle: 0-4, 2 K

Brian Johnson: 6 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR

Welcome to the second worst start of the season for Brian Johnson. Which this far into the, that's just not all that bad.

Portland W 3-0

Carlos Asuaje: 1-4

Justin Haley: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Salem W 5-2

Manuel Margot: 2-5, K, SB
Sam Travis: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 K, SB

Trey Ball: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR

Sam Travis is hitting .403/.471/.629 thus far in June while more than doubling his home run count. Granted, not quite as impressive a feat when it's going from 2 to 5, but he's having a damn nice season.

Greenville W 6-2

Rafael Devers: 2-5, HR
Yoan Moncada: 0-4, K

Sure enough, Devers is responding to his slump in style, with two homers in 10 at bats.

Lowell W 13-7

Josh Ockimey: 3-5, 2 2B, 3B, K
Victor Acosta: 2-5, 2 2B, K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-4, BB

The Spinners start the season off with a bang. The score was actually 11-6 when the third inning ended, making this final quite a bit more...mundane than one might have expected it to end up. Best start of all goes to Josh Ockimey, who looked overmatched in his initial exposure to professional baseball last year in the GCL. Not all that surprising for a fifth-round pick fresh out of highschool, no more so than a much better follow-up in Lowell would be.
