The Red Sox are without both Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia Tuesday afternoon as they try to stave off their eighth straight loss.
With Ramirez and Pedroia both absent, Mookie Betts moves all the way back up to second in the lineup after a three-hit night on Monday, with Bogaerts taking over cleanup duty after his homer. Those two have been all over the order this season, which is perhaps appropriate given how much of a roller coaster it's been at times for the young players.
Of course, when you're the sort of team that suffers seven-game losing streaks that don't even cause fans to blink in surprise, losing one of the few unquestionably good players on the roster this year isn't ideal for keeping that streak from extending to nine. At this point, though, it feels like it doesn't matter who's on the field for the Red Sox. You could bring the entire Cardinals roster put Red Sox uniforms on them and it seems as likely as not they'd manage to make a mess of things.
That casual mention of the Cardinals, by the way, is your excuse for having fun with the whole hacking story in the comments. Enjoy!
First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
