Red Sox minor lines: Boom times for Rafael Devers

The slow start to Rafael Devers' season seems to be over and done with.

Pawtucket L 2-8

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 2-4, K
Rusney Castillo: 0-3, BB
Travis Shaw: 0-4
Bryce Brentz: 1-3, BB, K
Garin Cecchini: 0-4, 3 K
Deven Marrero: 0-3, K
Sean Coyle: 0-2, BB

Brian Johnson: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 5 BB, 3 K

Rusney Castillo makes his return to outfield action. He's not hitting right now, but once he puts together some offense, it's hard to imagine the Red Sox wait too long to give him the call.

Brian Johnson, on the other hand, might have a little longer to wait after walking 10 batters in his last 8 innings. It didn't come back to haunt him in his last outing, but clearly that wasn't the case here. His ERA is still a tidy 3.42 thanks to his strong start to the season, but something has clearly gone wrong. If there was any question that Eduardo Rodriguez was currently the first line of defense, it's likely settled for now.

Portland L 5-6

Carlos Asuaje: 0-3, 2 BB, 3 K
Keury De La Cruz: 1-4, 2B, 2 K

Salem W 10-6

Sam Travis: 3-5, 2B

Ty Buttrey: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 3 K

Sam Travis has quietly picked himself up out of the gutter after a rough start to his season by going 14-for-27 this past week. Still not a lot of power from the Sox' second round pick, but when you're hitting .173 on April 24th, that's the least of your concerns.

Greenville W 14-4

Nick Longhi: 1-5, BB, 3 K
Rafael Devers: 5-6, 2 2B, 2 HR
Javier Guerra: 3-4, 2B, 2 BB, K

Rafael Devers entered Sunday's game hitting .286/.311/.329. He left hitting .329/.350/.474. How's that for a day at the office? The 18-year-old produced more extra-base hits yesterday's game than he'd had in 18 others leading up to it. After producing a slugging percentage of .506 in 2014 between the DSL and GCL, his power outage was, if not yet concerning, at the very least curious. If this is the start of a power-surge--and given how he played last year, there's every reason to expect it might be--that will be one issue off the list.
