Pablo Sandoval will sit out Thursday night as the Red Sox face yet another lefty in Roenis Elias.
With so many southpaws on the docket, it's been a rough stretch for Sandoval, whose left-right splits have been even more dramatic than usual thus far this season. While his performance in the field likely saved Wade Miley a good deal of grief (and perhaps secured the win for the Red Sox in the process), he really seems overmatched at the plate against lefties right now.
Brock Holt will take his spot in the lineup, with Shane Victorino returning to right field and batting sixth behind Mike Napoli. Combined with Hanley Ramirez, they should provide a daunting threat to any given lefty in the middle of the order, but so far Hanley is the only one who's actually proven capable of hitting even opposite-handed pitching so far this season. Both Victorino and Napoli will have to start taking advantage of these opportunities if they're going to see many more of them.
First pitch is at 10:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
