Jackie Bradley Jr. and Brock Holt will start in right field and at shortstop respectively as the Red Sox try to take the rubber match in their series against the Athletics.
The Red Sox will be glad to see a right-handed pitcher on the mound. Sonny Gray is a brief oasis in a series of four lefties in five games for a team that produces just a 77 wRC+ against southpaws. The next oasis, for the record: Felix Hernandez on Saturday. So we've got that to look forward to.
Looking at Wade Miley's 6.91 certainly will inspire no confidence in Boston's chances to win this series, but there's some reason for hope. The last two games have been fairly positive for Miley. Seven runs in 13 innings isn't anything to write home about, granted, but he's struck out 11 batters while only walking one, and the ability to put guys away has been a problem for him this year. If he can avoid those homers he suffered in his last outing, it might be another step in the right direction for the most baffling of Boston's underperforming bunch.
First pitch is at 3:35 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN, the MLB Network, and WEEI.
