Red Sox minor lines: Deven Marrero ramping back up

It had been a rough month for Deven Marrero, but as we approach the midway point of May, he seems to be finding his groove again.

Pawtucket W 6-1

Bryce Brentz: 2-5, 2B, 2 K
Travis Shaw: 0-3
Deven Marrero: 2-2, 2B, 2 BB, SB
Garin Cecchini: 0-3, BB, K
Sean Coyle: 1-4, 2B

Robbie Ross Jr.: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Three very nice games from Deven Marrero seem to indicate his May slump is over. To give you an idea of just how badly it started, though, he's still OPSing .587 in the month despite going 5-for-8 with a homer and two walks.

Portland W 2-1

Carlos Asuaje: 2-4, 2B, K
Keury De La Cruz: 1-3

100 at bats into the season, and Carlos Asuaje is still maintaining an OBP right around .400. He's probably going to have to prove himself all over again at every level--the benefit of the doubt is rarely on a guy like Asuaje's side

Salem L 1-3

Sam Travis: 1-3, BB, K, SB

Kevin McAvoy: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

A very different game from the norm for Kevin McAvoy. How different? Only after today is his K:BB at an even 20:20.

Greenville W 5-4

Nick Longhi: 1-3
Rafael Devers: 1-4
Michael Chavis: 0-4, 3 K
Javier Guerra: 1-3, HR

Zero strikeouts from Javier Guerra. He'll need to see more of that if he wants to avoid a serious midseason slide as that .410 BABIP normalizes.
