Red Sox vs. Orioles lineups: Brock Holt starts at second

It's Dustin Pedroia's turn to miss a day, as John Farrell mixes and matches to keep Brock Holt's hot bat in the lineup.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Brock Holt will be at second base Sunday afternoon, giving Dustin Pedroia a day off after a rough performance Saturday evening.

Boston Red Sox (7-4)

  1. Brock Holt, 2B
  2. Mookie Betts, CF
  3. David Ortiz, DH
  4. Hanley Ramirez, LF
  5. Mike Napoli, 1B
  6. Pablo Sandoval, 3B
  7. Shane Victorino, RF
  8. Xander Bogaerts, SS
  9. Sandy Leon, C

Starting Pitcher -- Rick Porcello

Baltimore Orioles (6-5)

  1. Everth Cabrera, SS
  2. Jimmy Paredes, DH
  3. Adam Jones, CF
  4. Chris Davis, 1B
  5. Delmon Young, LF
  6. Travis Snider, RF
  7. Manny Machado, 3B
  8. Ryan Flaherty, 2B
  9. Caleb Joseph, C
Starting Pitcher -- Miguel Gonzalez

With Pablo Sandoval and Mike Napoli switching places, this has the look of a lineup built to face a lefty. But a lefty Miguel Gonzalez is not, making this a bit of a puzzle. Perhaps the idea is to break up the Napoli - Victorino bunch of players who are more vulnerable to a right-handed reliever than, say, Hanley Ramirez. That's about all I can come up with.

Oh well. At least we have one of the two pitchers who has so far not suffered a disaster on the mound. That should mean less to worry about in the pitching department. Or does that just mean Porcello is due? I'm never clear on these things.

First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. with broadcasts on NESN, the MLB Network, and WEEI.
