Red Sox vs. Boston College lineups: Rusney Castillo starts with the B-team

It's not their best, but Boston's B-team is still pretty damn good.

The Red Sox are giving Northeastern their best punch, leaving Rusney Castillo, the best of the bench and a few high-level minor leaguers to deal with Boston College in Game 2.

Red Sox

  1. Rusney Castillo, CF
  2. Jemille Weeks, 2B
  3. Daniel Nava, LF
  4. Allen Craig, 1B
  5. Garin Cecchini, 3B
  6. Ryan Hanigan, C
  7. Travis Shaw, DH
  8. Jackie Bradley Jr., RF
  9. Deven Marrero, SS

So it's definitely the B-team, but given that what may well be the Opening Day lineup is busy playing Northeastern, that's one heck of a B-team. The real story underneath all the roster questions and the starting battle in the outfield is that whoever Boston ends up with, the bench is going to be ridiculously good. Castillo is Castillo, Nava and Hanigan both have career OBPs over .350, Craig is a former All-Star, and Bradley is one of the best defensive outfielders in the game.

Of note, though, is that said top defensive outfielder is playing right while Castillo is in center. And if Victorino's placement with the starters is a nod to his seniority, Castillo playing center over Bradley might be a nod to the fact that it's not just Victorino who has to earn his time, but Mookie Betts as well. It probably does just come down to three players doing a relatively even split of three spots, particularly when you have injuries mixed in, but right now making mountains out of every lineup molehill is all we've got, so let's run with it.

First pitch will come 30 minutes after the end of Game 1, with WEEI once again handling broadcasting duties.
