The Phillies want Mookie Betts in exchange for Cole Hamels, and on Sunday in a Grapefruit League game, they were served a couple of reminders why. Betts hit a double in his first at-bat, and then he crushed this pitch to dead center at JetBlue Park, over the head of center fielder Odubel Herrera.
With a little help from Herrera, who admittedly lost the ball for a moment, Betts sprinted home for an inside-the-park homer:
It should have just been a double -- or maybe a triple, with Betts' speed -- but that delay in getting the ball back to the infield gave him the time to head home, where he would guarantee his safe entry by sliding right into the baseball and booting it away from where it would be used against him.
Slick, Mookie. Real slick. What do you mean that wasn't intentional and we're just pretending he did it on purpose? Hey, who wants to see that inside-the-park job on a loop?
