The Red Sox season ends today, and they've got the full complement on deck for the occasion.
As anticipated, Swihart's absence from Saturday's game was designed to get him in the final game of the season. David Ortiz is back as well, with Deven Marrero the only real September call-up playing, and that likely only because of Brock Holt.
So we say goodbye to the 2015 team. Disappointing, yes, but also in many ways fun and exciting these past couple months. Nowhere near 2013, but better than 2014, and certainly 2012. And if we're saying goodbye for now, well, they'll most of them be back for the next run. Because if the 2015 team wasn't up to snuff as a whole, the second half bunch looked plenty competitive, and with a little help, look set to be a real contender in 2016 if this wasn't just a total illusion.
So while the offseason can't come soon enough, we're in the strange situation where neither can Opening Day. Let's put 2015 in the books, and give (mostly) this lineup a clean page to work with.
First pitch is at 3:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
