The Red Sox will have Allen Webster on the mound Friday night against the Kansas City Royals, so...Well, we should all just be prepared for that.
A few weeks back, when Allen Webster was putting together three decent outings, it was maybe worth hoping that he was finding his rhythm and putting it all together. But when a five-inning, three-run (four if you count the unearned one) is the positive after eight innings of twelve-run ball, and given Webster's history, it's really just not worth hoping anymore that any given start is the first in a line of good starts rather than an abberation.
Maybe one day all that nasty stuff will come together and Allen Webster will be as good of a pitcher as he can look in any given game. Until that day, though, when it's his name down at the bottom there, it's going to be tough to believe the game in question will actually be worth watching.
First pitch, for those who can convince themselves, is at 8:10 p.m. with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
