Red Sox vs. Blue Jays: David Ortiz returns to action

David Ortiz is back, and the Red Sox are looking to put a nail in Toronto's coffin with a series sweep.

The Red Sox will have David Ortiz back in the lineup Wednesday night as they look for a rare sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Today's Lineups

Brock Holt - SS Jose Reyes - SS
Dustin Pedroia - 2B Melky Cabrera - LF
David Ortiz - DH Jose Bautista - RF
Mike Napoli - 1B Adam Lind - 1B
Daniel Nava - LF Edwin Encarnacion - DH
Allen Craig - RF Dioner Navarro - C
Mookie Betts - CF Juan Francisco - 3B
Will Middlebrooks - 3B Kevin Pillar - CF
David Ross - C Munenori Kawasaki - 2B
Joe Kelly - RHP Marcus Stroman - RHP

There may not be a whole lot of meaning to Boston's wins these days, but there's certainly something to be said for playing spoiler to a division rival. The Blue Jays were already on the ropes, to be sure, but they had to be targetting this series as a chance to come away with some wins to get back into striking distance of the Mariners and Tigers in the Wild Card race.

Instead, the Red Sox have dealt them two extra-innings losses, and could well finish the sweep tonight, leaving them basically out of the race. They've got David Ortiz back, leaving their lineup looking as good as it has since Xander Bogaerts' slump began. And Joe Kelly, while he hasn't been terribly impressive with his new team, has a chance to build some momentum after five scoreless innings against Seattle.

First pitch is at 7:07 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
