Red Sox minor lines: Jackie Bradley struggles, Matt Barnes excels

New, 18 comments

Jackie Bradley's return to Triple-A isn't going all that well, but the rest of the Paw Sox are on a roll.

Pawtucket W 9-0

Jackie Bradley Jr.: 0-5, 3 K
Allen Craig: 1-3
Bryce Brentz: 1-4, 2B, 2 K
Travis Shaw: 1-4, 2B
Garin Cecchini: 0-1, 3 BB
Deven Marrero: 1-2, 2 BB

Matt Barnes: 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
Heath Hembree: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

I was really hoping we could avoid the whole "player struggles in the majors, then struggles at a level they dominated upon demotion" thing. Three games into Jackie Bradley's 2014 Triple-A season, though, and I'm not optimistic.

On a happier note...Well, most of the rest of this game! Matt Barnes continues to produce excellent results, Garin Cecchini is getting on base, and Deven Marrero breaks an 0-for-21 (!) slump with a big game. I guess all things considered I'll take it?

Portland W 5-3

Sean Coyle: 0-4, K
Keury De La Cruz: 1-4
Michael Almanzar: 1-4, 2 K

Justin Haley: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K

Sean Coyle returns after two weeks absent. Hopefully he has enough time to shake off the rust before the season ends.

Salem L 4-9

Carlos Asuaje: 2-4, 2 2B, K
Manuel Margot: 1-4, K

Pat Light: 4.1 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HR

Grerenville W 7-2

Cole Sturgeon: 2-4, 2B, BB
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-5
Wendell Rijo: 1-4, BB
Sam Travis: 2-4, 2B, HR, K
Danny Mars: 0-3, BB, K

Sam Travis had gone pretty cold this past week. Of note, though, is that aside from a hat trick earlier this week, he's been awfully resistant to strikeouts for the jolt he's been putting into the ball in his rookie season.

GCL Red Sox W 6-3

Rafael Devers: 1-4, 2B, 3 K, E
Michael Chavis: 1-4, 2B, 2 K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-3
