Red Sox minor lines: Early picks (finally) standing out

New, 5 comments

Boston's first picks in the 2014 draft have started to turn it on in the low minors.

Pawtucket W 15-9

Mookie Betts: 3-5, 2 2B, BB, 2 K, SB
Bryce Brentz: 2-5, BB, K
Travis Shaw: 2-6, 3 K
Garin Cecchini: 3-6, 2 2B, K
Deven Marrero: 1-4, BB, E
Blake Swihart: 2-6, 2B, 2 K

Pawtucket goes boom against the Braves' Triple-A affiliate. Even Garin Cecchini is hitting the ball a little better of late. Not well, per se, but...better, at least.

Greenville L 5-12

Manuel Margot: 1-4, BB
Tzu-Wei Lin: 1-3, 2B, 2 BB
Sam Travis: 1-4, HR, BB, K
Cole Sturgeon: 2-4

Jamie Callahan: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, 1 HR

Nine games with Greenville have seen Sam Travis hit .361/.425/.556. The start in Lowell was slightly slow, but after about two months in the minors, Travis is looking like one of the more interesting low-level prospects ready to restock the system after the exodus to the majors.

Lowell W 2-0

Danny Mars: 0-4, K

GCL Red Sox L 2-5

Rafael Devers: 1-4, K
Josh Ockimey: 0-4, 2 K
Michael Chavis: 1-3, 2B, BB, K
Trenton Kemp: 1-3, 2B, 2 K

Michael Chavis is hitting .348/.464/.478 in August, which is rather better than the .125/.234/.196 he managed in July.
