Red Sox vs. Royals: Shane Victorino returns

The Red Sox will have Shane Victorino back in the lineup for the first time since late May.

Shane Victorino is finally set to return to right field in Fenway Park, batting sixth as the Red Sox try to take a series win over the Royals.

Today's Lineups

KANSAS CITY ROYALS BOSTON RED SOX
Jarrod Dyson - CF Brock Holt - SS
Omar Infante - 2B Dustin Pedroia - 2B
Eric Hosmer - 1B David Ortiz - DH
Salvador Perez - C Mike Napoli - 1B
Alex Gordon - LF Jonny Gomes - LF
Billy Butler - DH Shane Victorino - RF
Mike Moustakas - 3B Xander Bogaerts - 3B
Norichika Aoki - RF Jackie Bradley - CF
Alcides Escobar - SS Christian Vazquez - C
Danny Duffy - LHP Rubby De La Rosa - RHP

It feels like it's been forever and a day since we last saw Victorino take the field. He's suffered setback after setback in his various rehab assignments, but apparently is moving about at full speed without any sign of discomfort. The question will be just how rusty his bat has gotten in the interim. He wasn't exactly killing it back in May, and he hasn't seen much in the way of live pitching this whole past month, frankly. As such, it's hard to really expect much out of Victorino from the get go.

With the left-handed Danny Duffy on the mound, Jonny Gomes will get the start opposite Victorino in left. That shifts Brock Holt all the way back into the infield, where he'll make a rare appearance at shortstop. Christian Vazquez, meanwhile, will make his first post-break appearance catching a relatively familiar face for him in Rubby De La Rosa.

First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
