Red Sox minor lines: Slow starts in the GCL

Where Lowell has seen surprising production out of fresh faces, the newbies in the GCL are struggling.

Eastern All-Stars L 2-5

Sean Coyle: 1-3, K, SB
Blake Swihart: 0-2, K

A pretty mediocre year for Red Sox at All-Star events from Lester on down.

Salem W 8-5

Justin Haley: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Greenville L 2-5

Cole Sturgeon: 0-4, K
Wendell Rijo: 0-2, BB, 2 K, E

Jamie Callahan: 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Given how quick the Red Sox have been to demote some of their players, it's kind of surprising to see Callahan still up with Greenville, where he's barely even showing signs of improving

Lowell W 6-4

Danny Mars: 0-3, 2 BB, SB, CS, POCS
Sam Trais: 3-5, 2B, HR, SB
Nick Longhi: 1-4, BB, K, POCS

Haven't exactly seen the advertised power out of Sam Travis just yet. These are his first extra-base hits in his last ten games.

And what was it, baserunning test day? Five stolen bases and three outs on the basepaths by the Spinners alone.

GCL Red Sox L 2-5 (In 7)

Josh Ockimey: 0-3, 2 K
Rafael Devers: 0-3, K
Victor Acosta: 0-0, BB
Michael Chavis: 0-3, 2 K
Trenton Kemp: 0-2

GCL Red Sox L 0-6 (In 7)

Rafael Devers: 1-3
Michael Chavis: 0-3, K

We've seen a lot of encouraging early returns in Lowell, but the players assigned to the GCL to start their careers (read: not Devers) have done pretty much nothing. That's more what we're used to when it comes to fresh draftees, admittedly.

DSL Red Sox W 13-4

Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-2, 2 BB, K
