Mookie Betts has joined the Boston Red Sox, but he's not in the starting lineup Saturday night as the Red Sox try to do better against Masahiro Tanaka than they did against Vidal Nuno. Not that they can do much worse.

It's kind of an anticlimax, but perhaps it's not the worst thing for Mookie to debut against not Masahiro Tanaka. There's the challenge of adjusting to a new level, and then there's facing a Cy Young candidate in your first at bat. One of these things is not entirely reasonable, and probably not the best way to introduce him to the majors.
Still...if they couldn't beat Nuno, Tanaka? The Red Sox have been impossible to figure out at times with regards to who they do and do not hit, but that's not a reason to expect them to hit Tanaka in any given game. Particularly not without the magical powers of Mookie. Forget all that stuff I said earlier about not making his debut against Tanaka. He'd totally get four hits. Totally.
First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. ET with broadcasts on FOX and WEEI.
