Another day, another new position for Brock Holt, who will get the start in right field Saturday afternoon as the Red Sox aim for a third straight win against the Indians.
With T.J. House on the hill for Cleveland, the Sox will turn to Jonny Gomes in left field. It's somewhat telling that the Red Sox would rather have Holt in right and Gomes in left than vice versa. Partially this is because Gomes has more experience with the wall, but I expect the bottom line is that the team trusts Holt to cover more ground in Fenway's spacious right field. Gomes may have a penchant for circus catches, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a fundamentally weak defender.
Otherwise it's a par-for-the-course day for Boston's lineup. Which normally wouldn't be a good thing, but they have put up 15 runs in their last couple of games and are facing a pitcher in T.J. House with an ERA north of 5.00. With Jake Peavy on the mound for the Red Sox, this has all the makings of a shootout.
First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
