Red Sox minor lines: Frustration by design

New, comments

The Red Sox have seen some pretty bad pitching performances in the lower levels this year. Some of them, though, are entirely according to plan.

Pawtucket L 1-3 (In 6)

Mookie Betts: 0-2, BB
Travis Shaw: 0-3, 2 K
Garin Cecchini: 1-2, K
Christian Vazquez: 0-2, K
Dan Butler: 0-2

Allen Webster: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 1 HR

Webster was off his game a bit early, but struck out six of the last eleven batters he faced. At this point the Red Sox have to be thinking about whether they don't get more out of seeing what he can do in the majors than they do out of running Peavy out there for mediocre start after mediocre start.

Greenville L 2-6

Forrestt Allday: 1-4, 2B, 2 K, E
Wendell Rijo: 1-3, BB, 2 K
Manuel Margot: 1-4, K

Trey Ball: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K

Back to the drawing board for Trey Ball. We should be ready for a lot more of this from high picks in 2015 given that the Red Sox have drafted another pair of project pitchers with two of their highest picks.

DSL Red Sox W 13-1

Rafael Devers: 1-3, 2 BB, K

Rafael Devers remains the obvious big name in the DSL, but this seems like a pretty interesting team on the whole. The brothers Basabe in particular might be worth keeping an eye on, if you can keep them straight in your head.
