Red Sox vs. Orioles: Xander Bogaerts sits out

Xander Bogaerts is on the bench Saturday afternoon as the Red Sox try to rebound from a game one loss against the Orioles.

Xander Bogaerts will sit out the Red Sox' second game against the Orioles, with Jonathan Herrera and Brock Holt manning the left side of the infield.

  2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  3. David Ortiz, DH
  4. Mike Napoli, 1B
  5. Mike Carp, LF
  6. David Ross, C
  7. Brock Holt, 3B
  8. Jonathan Herrera, SS
  9. Jackie Bradley Jr., CF

Starting Pitcher -- Felix Doubront

Baltimore Orioles (8-7)

TBA

Starting Pitcher -- Bud Norris

Bogaerts has started every game of the year to date, so it's not all that surprising to see him getting the day off now. But it's certainly not ideal timing. Xander has reached base seven times in his last 13 plate appearances, and with a struggling Felix Doubront taking the mound the Red Sox may very much need that production today.

Also of note is Grady Sizemore returning to right field. A...strange turn of events given that he was in left even with Daniel Nava manning the other corner last night. Apparently the Red Sox draw the line for an acceptable defensive sacrifice somewhere between Nava and Carp.

First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. EST with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
