While he hasn't landed a job just yet, Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo is a pretty popular managerial candidate these days. But if he does end up leaving Boston to take the helm elsewhere, it won't be in Tampa Bay. Mark Tompkin of the Tampa Bay Times has the Rays' short list for the position, and Lovullo did not make the cut:
#Rays prelim list manager candidates: Dave Martinez Charlie Montoyo Manny Acta Ron Wotus Don Wakamatsu Raul Ibanez Craig Counsell Kevin Cash

It's not Red Sox - Yankees, and with the Rays seemingly on the decline, the Boston - Tampa Bay rivalry is probably not headed in that direction anymore either. Still, even if nobody's looking to hold Lovullo back from taking the next big step in his coaching career, keeping a part of the 2013 World Series team out of a rival's uniform seems like a positive.
That doesn't mean we're safe from all Red Sox World Series winners taking the position. Sharp readers may have noticed one Kevin Cash on the list. Sure enough, that's the same Kevin Cash who took the plate 33 times for the 2007 Red Sox. He even hit a home run for the 2008 Red Sox in the ALCS against the Rays, but...well, let's not talk about that series.
